Sonya is a fully qualified and professionally registered Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, Swimming Teacher and Sports Masseuse.

Sports Massage takes the basic principle of massage and applies it with an understanding of how the body functions. Whilst the title might suggest a focus on working within sport, anyone who suffers from a condition that limits the effectiveness or quality of what they do will benefit from sports massage. Any illness or condition with a degree of pain results in tension in the muscles, which in turn may result in postural imbalance and a reduced range of movement.

How does massage work?

All massage involves kneading and manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, muscles, ligaments and tendons. This manipulation encourages the skin receptors to send a message of relaxation to the brain and reduces the sensation of pain. It aids healing, mobility and relaxation by:

  • Stimulating circulation
  • Decreasing the thickness of the blood
  • Reducing stress
  • Reducing muscle stiffness, pain and muscle fatigue
  • Increasing flexibility
  • Speeding up the repair of soft tissue damage
